Club History

Rotary Club of Kikuyu (RCK) was proposed in July 2012 by Charter President Jayne Wangari Ngugi who teamed up with DGSR Rtn Joyce Waiyaki of Rotary Club of Nairobi North to invite residents of Kikuyu, Kabete in Kiambu County, Kenya and environ to weekly fellowship meetings.

The Rotary Club of Kikuyu was chartered on officially on the 5th April 2013 followed by launch on 8th June 2013 Club ID: C000084999 .RC. Kikuyu meets every Monday at 6:00 p.m – 7:00 pm. at Sigona Golf Club, Along Nairobi, Nakuru Highway.

The purpose of bringing professionals together was three fold, first to address evident community challenges, to provide for Professionals and Community Leaders a structured means, competent and neutral platform to carry out their humanitarian activities and lastly to inject knowledge and skill through Rotarians vocations to enhance local capacity in community related initiatives. RC Kikuyu is a diverse group of business people and professionals committed to making a difference in the communities in which we live and represent. Through fellowship and partnership, RC Kikuyu Members are dedicated to engaging the community and enriching their lives by having fun and making a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.

1. STRATEGIC GOALS

1.1 MEMBERSHIP GROWTH AND RETENTION.

(a) Increase membership by 15 members per year in the next 3 years.

(b) Create vibrancy and actively engage members in club committees and activities.

(c) Ensure retention and engagement of the current members.

(d) Attract members from diverse professions with vast experience and wealth of knowledge in the Rotary areas of focus.

(e) Interest members in visiting other clubs to learn from others

1.2 TRAINING AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT.

(a) Ensure a leadership team is in place.

(b) Encourage members to learn at least (2) courses in Rotary Learning Center.

(c) Create enthusiasm for Board members who attend Rotary leadership and development programmes.

(d) Hold at least 2 training sessions a quarter for all members of the Club.

(e) Encourage members to attend District and Rotary International Conventions.

(f) Organise at least 2 annual joint fellowships with other clubs and encourage members to attend other club fellowships as a learning platform.

1.3 CONTRIBUTING TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION.

(a) Achieve Every Rotarian Every Year by encouraging all members to contribute at least Sh.1,000 per member.

(b) Encourage all members to be sustaining members by contributing at least $100/- per year. Equivalent to Kshs 1,000/- every Month.

(c) Contribute to Polio Plus Fund every year.

(d) At least 3 members become Paul Harris Fellows per year.

1.4 SERVICE PROJECTS

(a) Ensure satisfactory completion of all service projects

(b) Undertake at least 1 District and 1 Global funded service project per year.

(c) Carry out at least 2 practical (hands on) projects a year.

(d) Participate in at least 1 community driven project per year.

(e) Be actively involved in the projects

1.5 YOUTH SERVICE AND ENGAGEMENT

(a) Charter at least 1 Rotaract Club and 1 Interact Club in the 3 year cycle.

(b) Attend Rotaract and Interact Club fellowships and activities.

(c) Sponsor at least 3-6 Rotaractors every year to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) every year.

(d) Facilitate mentorship programmes for the youth.

(e) Involve Interactors & Rotaractors in Rotary activities

1.6 PUBLIC IMAGE AND RELATIONS

(a) Update club events and activities on all our social media sites.

(b) Advise members about RI, District and other club events and activities.

(c) Publish at least 1 article on club activities in the District Timeline Magazine and the Rotary Show Case in My Rotary.

(d) Develop, operationalize and maintain the club website.

(e) Promote Rotary work within the District and abroad through partnership and collaborations.

(f) Provide information, education and communication (IEC) materials to members and the community.

(g) Frequently advise club members on the consistent use and application of Rotary and club logo as well as the value of the Rotary brand.

1.7 FUNDRAISING

(a) Establish an effective annual signature fundraising event ie Charity Golf, Movie Night, Installation Event or a Diner.

(b) Open communication with clubs and donors for support of club service projects.

(c) Organize annual fundraising events.

(d) Arrange quarterly auctions during fellowships.
